Report from Nevada's Congressmen... (long post)...

July 02, 1999 at 10:29:26

I wanted to wait until my 3 Congressman had got back to me before posting. Jim Gibbons who is a former Fighter Pilot and represents Nevada's 2nd District, letter arrived today. Here's some of what he wrote: As a member of the House Resources Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands, I closely monitor the decisions made by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Additionally, I remain committed to ensuring that federal land decisions do not negatively affect Nevada's mining industry. I greatly appreciate your views on this issue, since they help me to better represent your interests in Congress. Please be assured that I will continue to FIGHT to ensure that federal oversight of public lands in our great State protects the interests of the mining industry and ALL Nevadan's. He also stated that the proposed regulations (3809) would also place an undue burden on small mining companies by enacting new Bureaucratic requirements for obtaining advance approval of mining and reclamation plans from the BLM. Senator Reid and Senator Bryan were also not happy about Babbitts high handed ways and gave similar committments to Nevada's Mining Industry, both small and large operations... Hope your Senators and Rep's are making like committments to all the small miners and prospectors out there... Regards, SabraJim
