And just for the record here, Chico and I went out yesterday for the whole day up there in "Gods country" and we both got skunked. We used both kinds of loops and still came up with nothing but nails.

Well, almost skunked. I got out my GM to test a quartz rock that was buzzing. Jim made me break it open to see if there was gold in it and the sound disappeared. Must have been a small piece of iron imbedded in it somewhere. BTW, this spot is known to have produced many quartz and gold boulders to detectors, some with many pounds of gold in them. One of which I found and walked away from years ago... but that's another story.

Anyway, since I had the GM out, I decided to see how long it would take me to find a piece of gold with it. I knew it wouldn't take long since this place is lousy with small pieces. So, I walked down the road a bit and started hunting. Right away, zip, a signal. Sure enough, a small flake. Then another, and another. Ok, this is boring. Enough flakes, lets go look for nuggets.

Just for kicks, we put the flake down on the ground and went over it with the Minelab 8" loop. Nothing. No sound. Didn't try it with the 5x10, though. So, we know the loops have SOME limits.
