Scanned the area again and about a meter away, got another nice signal. Not as loud as the first one, but very mellow and nice and peaked in the middle again. Scraped the bedrock down, nice and solid. Scanned the rock--signal strong. Hammer and chisel work, had to go deeper this time. Scanned the newly freed chunck of bedrock. Good tone. Broke it down very carefully and, voila, a nice fat little chunker. No real character like the first one, just chubby and round--weighed in at around 4 grams. This all happened in about ten minutes, and that's no fish story! In fact, we hadn't even set up camp or unloaded the truck or anything. This was all right out of the truck after a sixteen hour drive. Yes, we did find more nuggets later, after we'd set up camp, but those are other stories, for other days, when the cabin fever gets unbearable. Hope this helps Dave in Darwin and all other sufferers laid up with this common, often experienced, winter malaise of the North, and summer scourge of the South.

Good luck to all of you.

Later,

Lanny in AB
