A nice start

I just thought that I would share my latest experience. It only goes to show that you should never give up on an area because there was not good gold. Last weekend I gave into my 14 year old son and took him fishing in the mountains. I figured that if I had to go somewhere it might as well also have the possibility of some gold, even a few flakes would be enough to keep me happy. I took him to a place where I did see some fish a few years ago and also was able to pan a couple of specks. Gave up on that place three years ago. After setting up camp and getting him ready I took the trusty home made 2" backpack down to a little side gully. I did not want to have turbid water in the main river where he was fly casting. I did half a tank of fuel and figured I would do a clean up, then go and get the camp fire going. I cleaned up the miners moss and panned down fairly quickly. No black sand at all, so was not all that confident of anything. Then with a final swirl of the pan there was a two inch tail of nice flakey gold and a 1/4" nugget. Thats where I will be most of this summer. Good hunting.
