Great story Dave and I guess the moral of the story is that chasing "greener" pastures is something that new chums and youth in general should try to avoid. The gold is not always better just around the next corner or just over the next ridge.
The finding of gold here at Kalgoorlie was a classic case of youth chasing greener pastures over the next ridge. In 1893 there was a prospectors "rush" to a distant range of hills and all the young bloods rushed out like fools towards the mystery place. Old Paddy Hannan moseyed along casually behind the "boys" and while camped on a line of hills which they had all "rushed" over, he found gold at Kalgoorlie. The rest is history, and the distant place they rushed to turned out to be a duffer.
I wonder if anyone actually has found gold at the end of the rainbow ? :-)
Cheers,
Chris Hake.
