Have always enjoyed your posts on the EXP forum. OK, my .02 is if he's just getting into detecting, and isn't sure he's going to like it or not, to grab a Lobo or one of the other U.S. VLF's. It's my understanding that AK dosen't really have the hot ground like we have down here in AZ or CA. If that is truly the case then a US VLF would work well there. I think an SD series can only be justified if 1) a guy truly intends to go "Pro". Then he needs the best there is....2) If the ground is HOT, then the SD is the only machine that will work...3) If he has money to burn and dosen't mind buying expensive toys. But for the average guy an SD will never pay for itself because he just won't get out into the field enough to use it, and nothing can burn you up more than being reminded of "that waste of money" which mocks you every time you open your closet. Personally, for your friend, perhaps the ML 1800 might be a good solution? You may want to refer to the Alaska Forum and ask the same question there. You're sure to get more feedback. Email me if you need that URL. Best Regards! RockChuk
