Good new, bad news.

Good news to anyone comming to the Klamath area. The river is actually starting to clear up. I can actually see a foot or so. It will sure help high water dredgers. I hate dredging blind. F&G is very slow in getting out the permits this year. I called for four over a week ago and they havn't arrived yet, hope its not a trend. The weather is getting better every day. Bad news. I went to a meeting in Yreka today. NMFS is telling our county they want control of all land that any rain may fall on and run into any salmon bearing stream! They are also demanding any private land owner, that uses irrigation water, to place a fish screen over the source. The price? A hefty 40k. They are, for now, giving out grants but that gives the rancher a partner in his business, the federal government. What happens when the grants disappear? The property owner becomes a willing seller to Uncle Sam for penneys on the dollar because he will be in non-compliance. NMFS has told our county they are going to stop all mining, fishing, swimming, wading, and rafting. Nothing in writing as yet. I sure liked the debate on the MD's. I learned a lot. Stan
