Hi Jim, we confronted NMFS with logic. The salmon run in Nov. and Dec. so we came back and pointed out that very little swimming and wading is done in our rivers in those months of freezing high water. No rafting is done or even permits given out for the winter months either. He didn't really say much of anything but came back with fishing and said, "If a salmon saw another fish being hooked and reeled in it would be very tramatic for the salmon and we can't have that." We came came back with, "How many scientific studies were conducted to see if the salmon were so tramatized they would not lay eggs when they reached their destination?" He replied that he didn't know of any. They know they don't have much to go on so they will use anything they can, even if it's stupid. When Babbitt came down for the Soda Mt. monument designation, a green whacko stood up in the meeting and said livestock should be prevented from grazing the public land because everyone knows they are the chief cause of forest fires and their gas is causing green house effects! Need I say more? It does look like they want control of the land though. We are working on it and I'll keep everyone informed. In the mean time, everyone better get involved or you're gonna lose it. This is up hill all the way. Stan
