Old Furnace's???
May 06, 2000 at 17:15:12

OK Heres one for ya. Up near an area I like to go prospecting,( and treasure hunting), are some old furnaces used to fire the ore for smelting. Now we all know that Gold melts at around 1950 degrees.

These furnaces were wood fired, no blower or anyhing that I can find. They were early spanish arounf the 1700's. One felle said thet the reason no blower's was that they were smelting silver from the mines. I reluctently informed him that for silver it's over 2000 deg.

Q: How would you get a wood fired furnace that hot? If anyone has any info or insight I would love to know.

This has gotten to be a real quest for me. Finding the information is even more dificult. If you have data or web sites or such and want to contact me off list just drop me a note at,

Thanks folk's,

Das Desert Eagle ?AKA Jimi
