Last weekend went out with two other guys at a Civil War campsite in Central Missouri, we had some great results, I thought that some of you out there would be interested in our finds, as compared to the detectors we used. I used my Tesoro Toltec II and found the following. About seven nice drops, three buttons, and some miscellaneous stuff. Ted, my other hunting friend used an older Whites detector with a 9.5 inch loop, he found 14 drops, five buttons, a beautiful rosette with a side profile of a woman's face embossed on it, plus other miscellaneous stuff. Doug was using a Fisher CZ6 for the first time, his White's XLT had a broken stem and he was waiting for a hipmount kit. We parked the car and Doug walked out into the field and bang, he dug a beautiful brass .39 caliper bullet mold. He also found about 5 or six drops, but did not really know how to used the Fisher very well. Now we come to yesterday (Saturday). We all could not wait to get back there, who wouldn't want to. Myself this time brought my Fisher 1266X, found one pocketknife near a barn, so it is questionable as to Civil War. That is all I found with the Fisher, it was reacting to the nails and iron and I did not know where to set the two discriminators. I then changed to my Tesoro, found four drops, that is all. But I spent about two hours of our searchtime walking up and down other areas looking for another campsite. Ted using his older Whites found about eight drops and five buttons. This time Doug had his Whites XLT, a machine he is used to using. Doug found 41 drops, about eight buttons, two rivets, and other miscellaneous stuff. We now consider this site about worked out. The larger loops really make a difference, which is barely noticeable otherwise. If I had been by myself I would consider the site worked out. But the large loop that Doug was using enabled him to get great depth. I am not bad mouthing the older Whites, Fisher, or the Tesoro, they are good machines. With a larger searchcoil, which I am considering, I may do pretty well myself. I have been looking into a larger searchcoil, and sent a e-mail to Tesoro asking their advice on the concentric or wide scan searchcoil, they ignored me. Kind of makes me wonder why, you would think that a company that offers a lifetime warranty on their products would at least answer their customers requests. Good Hunting.
