Help me identify a pin

Hello all,

I'm mostly a coin hunter, but I've been hunting my great-great grandfather's old homeplace for the last week. He was a veteran of the Civil War. I unearthed a brass or bronze pin today that had two sharp posts and had both clasps on it. It was rounded and had two crossed rifles with hammers or flintlocks in the center. Overall size was about the width of a quarter.

Is this just another current curio or could it be one of his medals from the Civil War era? I'm not very knowlegable about relics. From encrustation around the edges it has to have some age to it.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Curt in eastern NC
