Steve, What time period of the war are you reffering to? I am going to assume that you're talking about February, 1865? When Sherman was around the vicnity of Columbia. It would pay for you to check in the South Caroliniana Library on Sumter? Street in Columbia. Ask them for the Records from War of The Rebellion-volume 47, partII. This contains dispatches from and to Wheeler. I believe the camp you are reffering to is in Fairfield County.(I relic hunt in Fairfield) Wheeler and Kilpatrick were skirmishing all over the area around Columbia.
