Remove any moisture, no matter how little, by brushing on formaldehyde (rubber gloves and eye protection highly recommended). Removal of moisture is one factor of why it is such a great preserveative. Let the item set a day or two in a dry place and then follow up on a coating preservative. Hope this helps.
