ID Disk

While hunting in a "played out" camp area near Falmouth VA Friday night I hit a location where a foundation was being poured for a new house. I swept the area and found a Savage bullet, a fired three-ringer, and a horseshoe. I kept going because a friend of mine, Ron Stump, dug his first plate only a hundred feet away.

Suddenly I got a blaring sound in the earphones. I pulled up a small disk with a brass loop run through a hole in it. An ID disk? No way. I've only been hunting two years and still haven't found that first plate or even a state button. Then again, why take the risk?

I didn't want to risk screwing it up cleaning it so I took it to Jimmie Wilson at Rebel Coin here in Manassas. We cleaned it up and it turned out to be not just a disk, but a fantastic ID disk! 90% of the glit is still on it. And, to some relief, the name, unit and hometown of the soldier are on the back. I'm already filling out the forms from the National Archives. 45th Pennsylvania, Company G,
