Hello Jess,
Lot of buttons still have the thread attached. I have dug buttons with some wool material still attached, brass grommets with the leather still there, belt buckles with belt pieces still attached. Usually the relics you find in wooded campsites are in better shape than ones found in fields. The action of being plowed for 135 years and the chemicals applied to crops take their toll on relics. Nice find!
