I went to an area known to be a confederate stronghold here in S.C during the war.It being deer season here I didn't want to get to far off the road.I have pernmission on this one plantation and believe it or not, Where I was at ,was less than 500 yards off of I-95. I could actually see the interstate traffic in the distance between the trees. The reason I was even here was I wanted to check this nice little hill in this combat area.Istarted in and the first reading I got in the woods was a percussion cap, followed by another. This got me thinking, yankee or confederate?Well the next reading was a plain 3 ringer and I said darnit another yankee spot!Well ,the next reading I got turned out to be a pretty little South Carolina cuff button in perfect condition. Now, I'm getting excited!I then I got an 1861Indian head cent it too was perfect.I'm thinking wow an untouched confederate camp, what luck! The next reading was a brass reins holder for a wagon. The reading was so load I thought for sure I had a plate.Well I hunted and hunted .The camp was now a picket post small in fact but it did give up one more perfect gold gilted vest S.C.button.So, I got 2 perfect S.C. buttons out of this one little spot. The area is large so after deer season I'll be back here again and see what else this little interstate camp holds.Pete in S.C.
