The calibre has nothing to do with how many rings. The standard conical 3 ring Minie' ball can be found from .54 to .69 calibre. The calibre is the diameter of the bore of the gun that the bullet is designed for. A CW era lead projectile is usually a bit smaller (so a .58 cal might actually measure .56 or .57)
A 2 ringed bullet is (without seeing it) probably a Gardner (or a Sharps variant), and is a good sign you are hunting an area where the Confederates were. Good luck!!!
