If you have had them over a year and they havn't flaked badly or split open you are OK. I wire brush the flake and dirt off of mine and spray them with satin finish varnish. They don't shine and look like dug relics. May have to do this once a year for a couple of times if you have a lot of flake.I have also had some run through electrolysis but unless you know what you are doing I wouldn't advise it. Also I hope they are solid shot. If they are still loaded, get someone who knows how to de-activate them before doing anything. Good Luck! Sounds like you have a good spot.
