seems like you missed a step that I have read so many times. You need to get the tax maps or talk with others that have been there. Find out who the owner really is. Do whatever possible is required to sweettalk the owner into giving you permission up front. Sometimes this requires a special trip that doesn't even involve the detector. Then after marrying his daughter or whatever you get (exclusive) rights to hunt and don't have to worry. Anything less is trespassing. Here in Ky doing what you did will get you shot, jailed or the dogs sicked on ya'. Most of the times I get turned down it's because so many folks have trespassed before me. In those cases it often takes months to get the owners to let me on...if ever.
