Since purchasing my computer in October of 1998, I've met and detected with "six" fellow diggers that I met from this forum. Only one was local, (Bill D. from Hampton, VA). Two were from North Carolina (Joey and Jerry), One from New Kent Co., VA (VaGent), one from Richmond (Robert Blackwell), and one from Northern VA, (Cory). This forum, in essence, has created a sort of geographically separated "Metal Detecting Club." I haven't mentioned the several friends I've aquired from this forum, but haven't met in person "yet," ie. Peter,SC/ John,Lex,KY/, Ken Hughes,FL/John,SE FL/ Eddie,VA/, Stan,GA./, Lynn Vaughn,TX/, a nice female detectorist from Pensacola,FL named Lynn, and several others. Of course the "OLD" veteran digger from my area "Jim," who found the five complete muskets (two with bayonets), lined up end to end, in Petersburg, VA, I met before I purchased my computer. Although or schedules have never allowed us to hunt together, we'll get together one day. Anyway, I'm saying all this to say that, this forum is an excellent means of bringing us together. Making new friends, new contacts and places to hunt. It's good to know that, if my area is not producing, I can take an hour or so drive, and search new areas with new friends, and visa versa. I know we are accustomed to keeping good sites a secret, but in the light of ever decreasing sites to hunt, we would do ourselves a tremendous favor if we open up (as me and my new friends have), and take each other to the sites we know of. Sharing our knowledge and sites will produce more finds for all. I say we all start hooking up with those at least a few hours drive away, and start finding those relics and coins that we seek! I've come to realize that meeting and sharing sites with others, have broadened my areas of hunting. I don't have as many hit or miss days, and I have more choices of where to hunt. Thanks for the new friendships, guys, and we'll continue to get together. I'll also be meeting you others eventually. Keep Diggin'!!
