Hi my friends,
I thought this was important enough to pass it on to everyone who may hunt in Henrico Co., Va. (aka "Central Va. to readers of NSTCW).
The county has adopted a strict policy of, quote, ZERO tolerance towards relic hunters. They have posted signs in storefronts, etc., warning that if you_do_not_have_written_permission you WILL be prosecuted for trespassing and larceny (assuming you have found anything, I assume). The store owner I spoke with regarding the sign in his window said the police officer who posted it, told him that they would also seek search warrents for those caught....and prosecute (onwhat grounds???) if they find relics at your home. The sign also states that confiscation of metal detector AND VEHICLE are possible.
How serious are they? I have no idea, but if they enforce it evenly and fairly it may not be a bad idea (I always get permission myself). I just thought I would pass this on for the benefit of those who travel and decide to hunt a vacant field/woods/etc.
