In all-metal-mode, a lot of detectors emit a constant signal called the "threshold tone." This droning sound drive me crazy since i can hear it even at the softest volume levels and I find it irritating.

What silent-search-mode does is provide you with either all-metal or discrimination (the bulk of silent machines) that detect metals without the continual tone in your ears.

Since I have perfect pitch and a musically trained ear, I really find it annoying to have constant tone in my headset.
