Second Civil War plate

Lately I have been having luck relic hunting that I cannot explain. Only several weeks ago, I posted a message that I had found an oval C.S. beltplate after several years of exhaustive relic hunting. To my astonishment, I was out relic hunting on a farm 3 hours from my home here in Virginia last Friday and I made the second-best find of my relic hunting career. I was using a Sovereign xs-2 for only my second time and I was just starting to get comfortable with using it. I had found 14 minie balls and thinking that was pretty good, I got another signal that I was sure was another 3-ringer. You can imagine my amazement when out came a U.S. boxplate with a beautiful emerald-green patina. Only a month or two ago, I was beginning to wonder if I would ever be so lucky as to find one of those relic hunter's treasures. Ironically, I found this one 3 weeks to -the-day from when I found the C.S. plate and the day was Friday the 13th. I guess it just goes to prove that you always make the good finds when you least expect it.

If anyone would like to see a photo of these two plates, I would be happy to e-mail them to you.
