Phil, I live in North Alabama and used to relic hunt with a fellow that lived close to White Sands, NM. He said that where he hunted the only detector that that he ever owned that would operate properly in his soil was the tesoro lobo st. He had owned several detectors also. And by the way, he brought his lobo st to North Alabama and cleaned my plow everytime we went detecting. I was using a 1266X at the time. Here in North Alabama we have red clay type soil. There are many areas here that must contain an extreme amount of iron mineralization because it rendered my 1266X practically useless. Sovereign users here never get that threshold sound that they are supposed to because the soil causes a constant null. I mean we have areas of vicious mineralization. Oh I almost forgot to answer your question. Another friend of mine, Jase Compton, uses a Nautilus DMCIIB here with really good results. The high mineralization does drive him crazy but he uses a High Q coil. His dealer recommended a Low Q coil for this area but he thought he wouldn't get that extra inch of depth. He is going to buy a low Q coil to help handle the high mineralization.
