I was garage sale shopping today and ran into a guy that owns some land on south mountain in maryland. He said i could search it so off i went. This is was my first trip relic hunting. Along the way I decided to make it my goal to find something cool. so i knew it could be along day. After about a hour of searching and finding nothing but wire I was thinking I was in the wrong area or maybe it was hunted out. Then I got a strong signal with my XLT in relic mode at VDI 78, 79 and a depth of 6.5". I knew it wasn't a dime because the signal was to strong even though it was a tight signal. Well i dug down and to my amazement I had found my first US oval shaped plate, the plate is actually concave with the US printed on the inside. About 1 hour later I found a button then another one. The one is a little button that has the words MASS VOLUNTEER MILITIA around some design on the inside. If you know what these things are please email back. Thank you!! HH
