I found a brass bell in the Uinta Mountains of Utah that had the date: 1878 situated between two crosses, and in large letters across the bell were "SAGNELECEUR CHLANTEL FONDER." The bell is about three inches across the face and about four inches in height. Is yours the same? I found that sheep herders from Portugal brought many types of bells with them when they came to this country. Some of the Spaniards had bells on their animals to keep track of them also. Some of the bells were made in the town of Porto in northern Portugal, while others were made in Spain and France.
