If you don't have a lighted screen, just set your disc to reject iron or just hunt in coins only. Dig every good sounding signal.
The toughest part of hunting in the dark is pinpointing. Outdoor stores and bike shops have flashlightes that mount on your head. These are perfect for seeing where to dig.
If you don't want to use a light, just dig every good signal and when you know the target is in your hand, throw the whole handful into a sack or something and sort it out when you get home.
