As Relic Prince said, Albert's is the standard source for button ID. It is considered the Bible. You might also want to check Daniel J. Binder's Civil War Collector's Guide to Albert's Button Book, Publisher's Press, Inc. 1993, available from Publ. Press, PO Drawer 631, Orange VA 22960. Price used to be $14.95 plus $2 shipping but may have increased.

Another good source is McGuinn's and Bazelon's American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates, BookCrafters,Inc. Chelsea,MI 48118. Good book though very few illustrations in this one.
