Yesterday,I went relic hunting with a relic hunting friend of mine,John Sinn.He took me to a New York camp in Stafford County,Virginia. He had a great day digging hutsites. He found several bullets,buttons,2 bottles and a really nice large "C" Confederate rosette.By late afternoon,I hadn't found much. All that I had found was a eagle cuff button,a kepi buckle and several rivets and gromets.
Then,I got a signal with my Nautilus DMC2B detector.Digging down about 6-8 inches,I found what I first thought to be a pulltab. What I'd found, instead was a shield shaped, silver identification badge. Was I ever excited.I've been hoping to find sonething like this for years. On the badge is engraved Wm.STEFFY Co.B 13 NYS Vols. I can't wait to get this soldier's record from the National Archives and learn about him.
What a great day.HH Ron
