I have either a fake, or real, Officer's silver beltplate from the 60th Royal Americans, 1st Battalion, of the type circa 1793-1815. I purchased this in the early 80's. G. Juno thinks it a fake, and it very well might be, but I have never heard of another "real" one in silver, or seen one. Why would someone make one as a fake out of what appears to be solid silver? The brass one, of which several examples do exist, would be so much easier to "fake" and sell! None of my collectors/dealers friends have ever seen or heard of one either. It is a real mystery. Anyone ever seen one anywhere? The regimental museum in Winchester has only the brass version, probably "other ranks". Check out listing (12-15-03) on Ebay, #2210822567 for photos. ANY comments either pro or con would be appreciated!
