Old shell casings

I recently found two old shell casings while metal detecting. The first appears to be a rimfire pistol cartridge. It is slightly flattened so the measurements are not going to be exact. The length is .92". The diameter of the base varies (due to being flattened) from .495" to .52". The diameter of the sidewall just above the rim is about .460". On the base is stamped the letter "H" and it is just offcenter. The rim thickness is about .092". The base is not flat all the way across. I am not sure if this is by design of if it is due to pressure rise from firing. The diameter of the raised portion is about .355" across and is centered on the base of the shell. Two firing pin marks directly across from each other are .025" wide and .095" long with the long axis pointing across the diameter of the base. Case thickness is about .024".

A second shell which appears to be a rifle shell is less distorted but with more corrosion. It is 1.302" long, the diameter of the base is .403" (it is a centerfire cartridge), rim thickness is .078" with a slight bevel that runs around the entire base. the diameter of the casing is .350" measured just above the rim and remains constant until about .350" from the top of the case where it was either slightly necked down OR the bullet was crimped into place with a very strong crimp. The markings on the case make the latter more likely. The diameter of the primer appears to be about .197" with a primer indentation of about .050". The case thickness at the mouth is .012" to .013" .

If you respond to my email address, please put something in the subject box indicating that it is a response to old shell casings so i don't delete the message.
