Camera ?

Hi,

I could use some advice, hints and tips on the next idea.

I live in Holland and am looking for wrecks in the North Sea. For those who do not live in Europe, the north sea is a shallow sea (3-30 m) with a very flat seabed (no rocks) Since the beginning of time ships have sunk here, so there are a lot of wrecks. However, as most wrecks do, the main part of a wreck lies under the sand with just a few beams sticking out of the sand.

The idea I have for this summer is to locate wrecks by the means of dragging several wreckanchors(?) behind my boat. This rig is connected to the boat with a string that will break when there is more that 45 kg of force on it. The mean rope has a float attached, so I can find it back.

Before you think that I will drag these anchors randomly around several hunderd square miles of seabed, I have selected certain areas. These areas were sea lanes in the early 1800's. (I've bought maps from 1800-1860 that show these chanels) The wrecks I've found sofar tend to be on the edge of these old chanels. So when I look at these spots only I should have a fair chance in finding something.

The problem is that I am very lazy ( :-) ) and want an easy way of having a look when the anchors caught something.

My idea was to make a watertight box with a video camera and lights. This box can then be hooked on the achor line, using that as guidance to the achors. The propulsion consists of a single propellor, for forward/backward motion. I just want to have a look what snagged the anchors and if it is worthwile to get into my suit. I am not interested in steel wrecks, as I want to find the old 1500-1800 wrecks.

Any of you have sugestions about this setup. Perhaps one of you tried this and foud it did not work..

Any hints, tips about the camera box setup. (ie. type of camera filters propulsion to use etc etc ?

Thanks, Jan
