I am intrigued by Mr. Torres' statements and his attitude. I recognize him NOT as an investor, nor as an Ecuadoran official involved with this discovery and recovery, nor as one of the Permitee's group. Perhaps Mr. Torres can expose both his motives (and his employer) in any return Email. Mr. Torres is uninformed in his postings. I will correct only one of his misunderstandings in this posting and will be pleased to correct him in other areas after he explains why his is on such a "witch hunt" and for whom does he work. Mr. Torres wrote about a dated gold coin found on the wreck site which post dated the Capitana wreck. Does Mr. Torres know the Capitana was salvaged for many years after the sinking? Does Mr. Torres realize a post dated coin could easily be found at a wreck site--dropped by other searchers and salvors? That might explain a post dated coin. In fact, the gold coin found at the wreck site was identified as a 2-excudo, minted in 1652 (two years BEFORE the wreck). The mint was Seville, Spain (Type 31,no.129.P.237 Numismatica Expanola 1474-1988. F.Calico, X Calico & J. Trigo 7th edition, Barcelona 1988. One last salvo and then I'll invite Mr. Torres to go offline with me if he has further questions so as not to clutter up this fine site with misinformation. Mr. de Bry, the Director for the Center of Historical Archaeology, was invited by the Director of Cultural Patrimony to inspect the assemblage of cultural material salvaged from the Capitana. In his conclusion he certifies the wreckage we found and salvaged off Chaduy Reef was the Capitana; more precisely, the Jesus Maria de la Limpia Concepcion.
