Mary-Ann, I don't know about doubloons there, but at least one ship was supposedly wrecked at the mouth of Johns Pass. At that time Johns Pass was located North of where it is today. I think somewhere around 128th. Spanish ships could enter Tampa Bay through this channel and this is the way many think they visited (pillaged) the mound village at Jungle Prada. I have found Spanish and Indian pottery at Arrowhead Picnic area in Fort DeSoto Park, but I think will cause trouble in the park if seen metal detecting there and I do not think the park will give permission.
