I read another version of the gold table. It seems that a large gold nugget was found in the shape of a dinner plate. As the story spread around, the nugget grew as large as a dinner plate and eventually, rumors spread that it was as big as a dinner table. The fleet of 32 caravels left Santo Domingo under the command of Antonio de Torres and his flagship, carrying the nugget (with Bobadilla on board), sank in a hurricane on July 4, 1502 in the Mona Passage
