Cannon Markings

May 03, 1998 at 19:51:37

Can anyone help me? I am attempting to trace markings found on a small (9.25 inch) bronze signal cannon from a late 1600's Spanish shipwreck. Please suggest any books, magazines, publications or papers that have such listings, ie...photos of stampings along with a description of foundry, years produced, nationality, ect... I have 2 scanned photos of the cannon. If you think you might be able to help me directly, please e-mail me and I will forward them.

Also, can anyone offer any suggestions as to the use of such a small piece on board?

Thank you,

Jim Michon michonjd@earthlink.net
