Mr. Humphries: We used to dive the City of Vera Cruz back in the late 70's and early 80's. Everyone reports that the wreck was found in 1980 by a shrimper but we knew about it in 1978. Sometime around 1984 (?) we stopped diving it as we heard Shipwrecks, Inc. had the admirality lease on it. Is that correct?
The ship is broken in 2 pieces, both lying close to each other in about 78' of water but interestingly we discovered a debris trail out to the southeast into 82' of water and along this trail recovered a variety of artifacts.
I would love to get back there sometime. Would that be possible? All the information I have on the ship is from the "commercial" sources you mentioned, namely an article in Shipwreck Magazine, and information in books by Steven Singer and Kevin McCarthy.
