Well George:
I bought a boat once that turned out to be stolen and had to surrender it to the police. Got half of my money back so its always best to have a title of ownership. Now raising one, it should still have its bow numbers, write them down and go to the tax office and have them look it up. They can determine who the owner is and then a phone call can set the record straight. You may have to consult with an attorney or a police chief to determine if you have any salvage rights. Keeping it could be deemed "harboring stolen goods". Nothing else, see if there is a reward for the recovery. If not, I'd push her off into deep water with the plug removed and say "Adios"!
