Author Jeff Ferguson, Fact or Fiction?

August 31, 2001 at 16:06:41

The following excerpt is from a story written by Jeff Ferguson, and published in Lost Treasure Magazine.

"The French packet freighter "Dreux," sank in 1860, in 48 feet of water, 21 miles off Bowlegs Point near St. George Island. The ship carried nearly $500,000 in gold in two wooden crates, which also contained smaller locked wood chests belonging to a French merchant."

I have been unable to confirm the existence or sinking of the "Dreux," and was wondering if this author's work should be classified, "pure fiction." He also wrote another story about the pirate Jan VanOss, but I've never heard of him. Can anybody confirm these stories?
