Nowadays they run about $100 per spool from the Archives. On average they'll run 3-4 spools per year, with the 1862-1864 running somewhat more, and some of the other years somewhat less. Each spool contains several thousand documents. They are grouped, by greater or lesser extent, by compound, unit, or commander, but this doesn't hold true enough to allow anyone to skip through with confidence. To add to the problem, the years spill over to some extent, into the next spool on some of correspondence.
