You are right that at least part of the cache came from Maximilian---Noss found a large trunk with the name Charlotte on it, which contained many personal items of Carlotta--like clothes and jewelry, and correspondence with Napoleon III and other rulers of Europe--and one of her crowns--Noss allowed a friend of his to come in and take a souvenir-one of Carlottas rings-with 5 rubys and i believe I remember there being about 14 diamonds , I guess the Apaches thought it a big joke to amass all the loot taken from the Whites in one repository--the storage cave in Victorio Peak !
