I was searching Coon Creek seven years ago and came upon a claim marker with papers in a tobacco can dating from about 1953. The papers were for a gold load claim. Coon creek has lots of black sand and I panned a very small gold speck from the creek gravels near the claim marker. I also found a few pieces of white quartz (which had to come from somewhere) and I found a piece of stone with a LOT of iron in it (meteorite?). I also found a map that listed another Coon Creek in the area (within 20 miles). This map showed BOTH Coon Creeks! I have not had the chance to check out the OTHER Coon Creek yet! Someday...
