Drilled Hole
June 21, 1998 at 14:21:44
I recently found a pile of rubble with what looks like Celtic markings on some of the stone. One block of stone was approximately 9"X9"X18". The last eight inches of the eighteen inch section was chiseled to a pointed edge the full width of nine inches.
What was really unusual about this block of stone is that it had a hole drilled all of the way through it. The first thing I thought of was that it was to hold a flag pole, but would that be logical?
I have no idea what its purpose was, but thought maybe someone out there may have seen the same thing or know what its use may be. The pile of rubble was on a mesa, a long way from civilization, but near some abandoned mines. This pointed rock was pointed toward the mines.
There were a lot of other pointer monuments with what I would gustimate is Celtic writing on it in the area. Any suggestions?
Tom
