You should be able to get Chuck's last book from the Superstition Mountains Historical Society web page on their Book List at http://ajnet.ci.apache-jct.az.us/museum1.htm If they don't have it, call Pro Mack South Mining Supplies in Apache Junction, AZ, at 602-983-3484. I know that Elaine Schrader, the owner, stocks that book.

Do you have Helen Corbin's book that I referenced in my first response. It is the best overall summary of the LDM history and characters that played it out.

Yes, the Superstitions are closed to mining after they were made a Wilderness Area in 1983. Sure doesn't seem to stop the LDM hunters. Think they all believe that if they found it, they would mine it secretely. If the mine is located in as tough an area to find/reach as the historical clues indicate, it could probably be done. In the 5 years (1993-1998) that I researched/searched for the LDM before I moved to Texas, two people were killed in the Superstitions - one woman and a man. I heard a story or two about individuals being shot at if they got near certain areas. There are still a few die-hard Dutch hunters back there that have finally gone over the edge. I mostly hunted for the fun of the research and the backpacking adventure in the mountains. I did carry a gun whenever I went in there although I never had a need to use it for snake or man.

Hope you can find the books OK. Enjoy the reading.

Roger
