Richard , If they can build a machine that sniffs out amonia from people going to the bath room,as in Vietnam, then I'll believe most anything that isn't too outrageous until I see it doesn't work. Now, as for map dowsing, I saw that show on the Discovery channel, and I must say, if you are one of those special " tuned -in" people, It might be something else to look at along with the books and research. I have seen a amateur pick up a pair of welding rods and find a buried gas line. He didn't know about the gas line but I did. I tried and nothing happened. So there's probably merit in your ners thing.But I would assume at 800 miles away , it must be one BIG object or deposit to make any reading at all. So what about the Bermuda Triangle?
