Hi Steve. I'm not sure if this is something that might interest you, but I bought a book at an auction today. The title of which is "AMERICAN ANTIQUITIES AND DISCOVERIES IN THE WEST: Being an Exhibiton of the Evidence that an ancient population of partially civilized nations differing entirely from those of the present indians peopled America many centuries before its discovery by Columbus, and inquiries into their origin with a Copious Description of many of their stupendous works, now in ruins, with conjectures concerning what may have become of them. Compiled from Travels, Authentic Sources, and the Researches of Antiquarian Societies. By Josiah Priest, fourth edition, Albany: Printed By Hoffman & White, 1834. A very interesting book, with descriptions of places in Ohio, Kentucky, and other locations. One chapter titled, A catacomb of embalmed mummies, found in Kentucky, very interesting reading. Of course in 1834 some of the circulating opinions were different than todays. For instance today most people believe that the glaciers formed the great lakes. in 1834 Josiah Priest mentions in his book that lake Ontario was formed by a volacano. The first four chapters cover the biblical spreading out of humanity from Mt. Ararat (Noah's Ark) to the Division of the earth in the days of Peleg, and of the spreading out of the nations, with other interesting items. An excellent work on the physical surroundings of a young nation, many of which I'm sure are now overlooked, simply taken for granted, daily by folks in all walks of life. Pastor Chuck Davis. BTW the book itself is a small treasure!
