A lot of gold was cached in KY after the "War of Rebellion." Remember there was nothing civil about that war! It is entirely possible that much wealth was buried during the war too. But research hasn't turned up anything other than lots of stories. KY was a state torn between Union and Rebel sympathies and ruled by guerilla bands, no doubt many individual caches were made that the owner never lived to recover. But for major caches with substaniating evidence that they exist, most were placed after the war by the Rebel Underground.
Paul Henson had some good leads for Ky. I'm sure he published a few in his column for Lost Treasure. Before his passing, he also shared some leads with his friends. Some of the leads came with maps. Read what you might find on the KGC/Confederate Underground in post-war America and you can at least see why KY would have a lot of their treasure depositories. GCR would be a source of info on this.
