5. "The Lost Library of the Mayan Itza in Southern Belize Part 1" - Daryl Friesen
This was the beginning of a very promising, but incomplete archaeological expedition into the mountains of southern Belize in search of the lost library of the Maya Itza. I began my research on the internet, which led to a strange encounter with a fellow in Dallas, Texas.
He told me he had located a strange tablet with Mayan carvings in a cave deep within the mountains of southern Belize. These carvings were a map to an ancient Mayan city which has yet to be discovered. It was also a depository for ancient Mayan codices! It sounded too much like an Indiana Jones movie to me, so I asked him if I could see this strange tablet. He showed me several pictures of him and his find. He then proceeded to tell me that he had smuggled the tablet out of Belize and hid it in a secret place somewhere in Dallas.
We parted company at this point because I had to board my plane. When I reached Central America I did a little looking into his story for myself. He had given me a picture of the tablet, which I showed around in the small town of Punta Gorda, Belize. No one seemed to know anything about the tablet. At this point I had given the guy up as crazy until there was a loud knock on the door of my hotel room that evening. When I opened the door, I was staring into the face of a large and angry looking gentleman who wanted to know if I was the one showing the picture of the tablet around town. He asked where had I got the picture and what was the name of the person who gave it to me. Maybe there was something to this after all, I thought to myself, as the man invited himself into my room for a little chat...
I just received a copy of a new Treasure Hunting Magazine. The Magazine is Treasure Hunter's Insider, by Daryl Friesen. Daryl is also the owner of Spindle Explorations, a treasure hunting company. I enjoyed the magazine alot, they had a couple of very interesting stories, about their own explorations. They also had a good section on where to find investors for your projects and a very good article explaining remote sensing.
I think they are off to a good start. They need more articles; if you would like to try your hand at writing for a magazine, get hold of Daryl at dfriesen@direct.ca. I would like to encourage everyone to support this worthy project, we need another good Treasure Mag!"
