Many years ago I read this story in Long John Latham's Treasure mag and was just a little sceptical as to it's authenticity.

As near as I can recall these old boys sailed up the Gulf of California and entered a river that emptied into it from the North. I believe the story stated that it was the Colorado river. These seafarers sailed up the river, got stuck on a sandbar, along came an earthquake diverting the river, and left them high and dry in the middle of the desert. I don't know how true it is but I do know a number of people searched for it in the 1960's.
