What if it's a real grave?

How can you tell if a burial is genuine or not? What if the MD target is a dead person's jewelry in a shallow grave? Is that fair game? Unless I had VERY convincing evidence to the contrary, I would have to assume that a found grave is just that - a burial site. When I encounter a pioneer grave in the boondocks, I'm always curious about the circumstances - someone probably died on the trail (traveller, cowboy, prospector, woodcutter, etc). I'll look around the vicinity for remnants of an old homestead, camp site, etc., but I for one would not disturb the grave.
